After out performing expectations in week 1, the Pirates Colts had a higher standard to expect from themselves and perhaps the pressure got to them. A 14-44 loss was the result. For a team full of rookies, not terrible, but the team did expect a little more from themselves.
The Trojans had a big challenge in week 1 of the 2024 regular season. Play their first game. All players from our Colts squad have never played before. They sure did face the challenge head on, trading score for score with UTS until finally the dam broke and the score got away.
When asked for his thoughts on the team’s performance, Coach Sea stated: “The new Pirates colts team has shown they have the DNA of all Pirates. We exceeded our expectations of our first game together but have a lot of work to do.”
It will be interesting to see how the boys respond next week, vs the Wollongong Mustangs.
The West Sydney Pirates would like to congratulate our Colts players who have been invited to attend the Junior Outback National Selection Camp.
They will be trialling for a position in the Australian Outback U19 Team that will compete in the IFAF U19 World Championships to be held in Mexico in July 2018.
The West Sydney Pirates Colts’ season has come to an end in Week 1 of the Playoffs. An undermanned Pirates team went down to the Central West Giants by 32-6.
Our thanks to Coaches James Forster, Chris Snagg, their Assistants, and all the players for their efforts this season.
2017 comes to a close but there are plenty of reasons to be positive about the future.
We regret to announce that tonight’s Division 1 game between the West Sydney Pirates and the Newcastle Kings has been canceled. Unfortunately the Kings have been forced to forfeit the game due to a lack of player availability. The other games scheduled for Craik Park will proceed as scheduled.
Another unfortunate event is our Colts went down to the Central West Giants 22-0.
The Pirates are taking on the UNSW Raiders. Our Colts team ended up with an 8-8 all draw and move to 2-2-1 on the season and 5th place.
In the Div 1 game it was a defensive battle in the first quarter with the only scoring being a Safety to the Raiders. At the end of the 1st Quarter the Pirates trail 2-0.
A little bit of fireworks in the second period with the teams trading converted Touchdowns but at halftime the Raiders still hold their 2 point lead. Pirates trail 9-7. End of the 3rd Quarter and the scores have been evenly paced again. The Pirates still trail at the end of 3 by 16-14.
An amazing final period with the Pirates making a crucial 4th Down stop on their own goal-line followed by a 86 yard drive for a score. Final score, Pirates defeat the UNSW Raiders 22-16 to remain undefeated on the season. Pirates move to 6-0 and 1st place.
Cool conditions in Wollongong where the Pirates took on the Sutherland Seahawks. The Pirates scored early but the Seahawks responded with a long drive of their own.
At the end of the 1st Quarter the Pirates lead it 14-8. An uninspiring 2nd Quarter and the Pirates extended their lead to 27-14. It’s a night for both Offenses. Pirates lead 47-20 at the end of the 3rd Quarter.
Some good things, some things to work on but another “W” all the same.
The Pirates remain undefeated with a 59-28 win over the Seahawks.
In the Colts Division an under-manned Pirates’ team went down to the reigning Champion Sutherland Seahawks by a score of 38-20.
The Pirates Colts are taking on the League-leading Sydney University Cubs in Week 4 of the 2017 competition.

The West Sydney Pirates’ Colts have had a tough day out falling to the Sydney University Cubs by 36-12.
In Division 1 action the Pirates face the Sydney University Lions in a rematch of last year’s Waratah Bowl.
The Pirates scored early after a long run by Ray Saipele and took a 6-0 lead.
The Lions hit back with a converted TD to lead 7-6 at the end of the 1st Quarter.
A defensive dogfight in the 2nd Quarter with no addition to the score. It was an exciting game but both teams will be regretting missed opportunities.
At the half it’s Lions 7 – Pirates 6
An exciting 3rd Quarter with the Pirates taking the ascendancy. At the end of the period the Pirates are ahead by 18-7.
A tough, tough game of football. Injuries to both sides but neither team gave an inch.
Final score Pirates 18 – Lions 7.
The Pirates move on to a 3-0 record.
The Pirates’ Colts are playing their season opener at Craik Park against the Nepean Ducks. It’s been a good opening to the season with the Pirates leading 28-0 at halftime. Full time in the season opener and the Pirates’ Colts have defeated the Nepean Ducks 36-0.
It’s a real battle at Craik Park. The Nepean Ducks scored first to take 6-0 lead in the 2nd Quarter but a 95 yard drive capped by a David Ward to Manzil Stone TD pass and a 2 Point conversion on the last play of the half sees the Pirates lead 8-6. Scores on the ground and in the air see the Pirates move further ahead. At the end of the Quarter the Pirates lead 23-6. Full time at Craik Park and with no addition to the scoreboard the Pirates run out winners by 23-6 to move to 2-0 for the season. A better effort all ’round in the 3rd Quarter.
As the 2017 pre-season draws to a close, the West Sydney Pirates’ teams are excited for the 2017 season to begin. The full 2017 schedule can be found at 2017 Div 1 Schedule and 2017 Colts Schedule which will be filled out soon as there have been changes due to a late withdrawal by the Panthers.
We hope to see you out supporting the teams.
