The Pirates got their 2016 campaigns underway in impressive style in Week 2 of the season. With Week 1 games being cancelled due to wet weather the games against Wollongong would be the Pirates’ first serious hit out and the first real chance to see how the teams had come together in the pre-season.

The Pirates Colts got the day off to a great start with a 32-12 win over the Wollongong Brumbies. The Pirates, fielding a team largely made up of rookies, started well and were never headed on the day.

The Pirates Division 1 team followed that up with an impressive 56-8 win over the Wollongong Mustangs. The Pirates scored from their first play from scrimmage and kept up the pressure throughout the game to record their win.

It was a great start by both teams but there is a long season ahead and still a lot of improvements to make.

Week 3 games see the Pirates take on the Northern Sydney Rebels.

We have just received this email from the League –

Clubs,

Unfortunately due to the significant rain that has fallen today all grounds have been closed. With the lack of an adequate number of suitable grounds to move all games, GNSW has been forced to call round 1 effectively cancelled.

All games will be scored as a 6-6 draw, giving each team 1 championship point. The exception to this is Central Coast v West Sydney, as Central Coast forfeited, the result of that game remains the default 21-0 for West Sydney.

These games will not be made up later in the season.

The 2016 season for both Colts and Division 1 is only about one month away. Although we haven’t received details of the Draw from the League as yet the opportunities for improvement are slipping away.

How will we start the season? Will we be ready? Will YOU be ready?

Make an effort and get to training.

Time is running out!

The 2015 season has come to a close and the Pirates can be proud of their efforts in both the Colts and Division 1 competitions.

Thank you to everyone who participated as either a player, coach or support staff, but a special thanks to those who supported the Club throughout the year by giving up their husband, their boyfriend, their son or their dad to allow them to be a part of the team.

May you all have a very Merry Christmas and a safe and healthy 2016.
